New Car Insurance The Easy Way
It is often confusing and even frustrating when you start to look for the right auto insurance. First you need to know what the law requires for your jurisdiction and then get a quote or quotes. Here are some things to look for when you are shopping for car insurance.
Insuring Your New Car
Though it is sometimes scary to buy a new car, it is always exciting. Too figure out what the new car will cost you add up the listed price plus taxes, upkeep and the cost of fuel but most people forget to add in insurance costs. It is a safe bet that the more expensive the car the more the insurance is likely to cost you. High cost luxury cars are more expensive to insure than are the no-frill economy cars for the following reasons: the luxury cars are stolen more often and their parts are more expensive to replace. There are however, exceptions to this rule. One example is a Volvo which costs less to insure because it causes less damage when hit and usually is less damaged as a result. Fewer Volvos are usually stolen and they do a better job at protecting their passengers than do most other types of cars.
New Car Liability Insurance
Liability is the term used to refer to bodily injury and property or vehicular damage that result from an accident. You recommended amount of coverage is $100,000 for bodily injury and $300,000 for property damage, per collision. It usually a good rule to purchase the most that you can afford.
New Car Collision and Comprehensive Coverage
Coverage of this type is a function of the Blue Book value of your car combined with repair cost estimates. If you are a part of an accident, collision coverage will pay for repairs or replacement of the vehicle. Comprehensive coverage also applies to damages caused by the weather or natural disasters and vandalism.
New Car Personal Injury Protection and Uninsured Motorist Coverage
When you have Personal Injury Protection (or PIP) you are covered for medical expenses in accidents involving your vehicle. Actually the protection is extended to you or your eligible family members even when passengers in other vehicles. If you are hit by a vehicle while walking, you are covered.
When the other person is not able to pay if you have uninsured and under insured motorist coverage you're protected. This part of the policy is in force if you are the victim of a hit-and-run or your vehicle receives damage by someone else.
